The city has promoted facility modernization projects to improve aging infrastructure, including the construction of a new Gwangyang Daily Market, the expansion of Gwangyang Permanent Market, and the construction of a new Jinsang 5-Day Market. In addition, the city improved safety and accessibility for visitors by upgrading the parking environment at Jungma Market.
Through the Cultural Tourism-Type Market Development Project, Gwangyang City has branded and commercialized its signature local dish, "Gwangyang-style Grilled Chicken." The city has also promoted the excellence of Gwangyang’s traditional markets by participating in various expos, such as the National Excellent Market Expo.
Furthermore, under the "Digital Traditional Market Development Project," the city introduced online ordering and delivery services, and is working to join the Naver "Neighborhood Market Shopping" platform, actively responding to changing consumer trends. As part of the Market Management Package Support Project, market managers have been assigned to enhance the operational efficiency of merchant associations and strengthen business execution capabilities.
The city is also focusing on revitalizing local alley commercial districts. From last year through this year, four areas in the Jungma-dong district have been designated and operated as alley-type shopping districts. By expanding the number of Onnuri Gift Certificate affiliate stores and providing training to strengthen merchants’ capabilities, the city is injecting new vitality into the local commercial sector.
Mayor Jung Inhwa stated, "This award is the result of joint efforts by the city, merchants, and related organizations to revitalize traditional markets. We will continue to provide unwavering support to strengthen market competitiveness and boost the local economy."
