Game-Based Program Draws Attention for Boosting Tourism and Economic Participation
Gwangjin-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) held the ‘Youth Network Policy Proposal Contest’ at the Gwangjin-gu Office on October 29. At the event, eight teams presented youth policy proposals, and the Youth Policy Committee selected winners for the Grand Prize, Excellence Prize, and Encouragement Prize through a review process.
The Grand Prize went to ‘Gwangjin Marble.’ This program uses a familiar board game format to encourage community participation in local attractions, markets, and festival experiences, aiming to revitalize the local economy and strengthen community bonds. The innovative approach stood out for promoting resident engagement in tourism and economic sectors.
The Excellence Prize was awarded to a project installing dedicated collection bins for takeaway cups around Konkuk University Station, designed to improve urban aesthetics in an eco-friendly way and support waste separation. The Encouragement Prize recognized a proposal for a step-by-step integrated support model to prevent the growing issue of youth hoarding, including organization education, mental health counseling, self-help groups, and mentoring.
The Youth Network serves as a communication platform where local young people gather to discuss and solve problems together and propose policies. Eighteen Youth Network Committee members, active in four divisions-education & culture, jobs & economy, low birthrate & aging, and housing & health-participated in the contest. The judging was conducted by members of the Youth Policy Committee.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The Policy Proposal Contest is an opportunity to develop innovative and practical policies that truly help young people,” adding, “If you have any needs or inconveniences, please let us know at any time.”
