Honoring Seniors and Reflecting on the Value of Filial Piety
74 Individuals Recognized for Contributions; Diverse Programs Including Performances and Exhibitions
Strengthening Customized Senior Welfare Policies with a 208 Billion Won Investment
Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, held the 29th Senior Citizens' Day commemorative event on October 30 at the Gumi City Multipurpose Sports Center, organized by the Gumi Junior Chamber (President Lee Dong-eun).
This event was organized to reflect on the significance of Senior Citizens' Day and to express respect and gratitude for the dedication of seniors who have contributed to the local community.
The event was attended by Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, Park Kyosang, Chairman of the Gumi City Council, Lee Jaeho, President of the Gumi Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, as well as members of the National Assembly, city and provincial council members, heads of institutions and organizations, and approximately 1,800 seniors from 25 towns and neighborhoods, making it a great success.
Meanwhile, in order to realize the vision of a 'Happy 100-Year Life Era,' Gumi City has allocated a senior welfare budget of 208 billion won this year to implement various policies, including the construction of the Gangdong Senior Welfare Center, increased and differentiated support for senior centers' operating expenses, congratulatory payments for seniors over 100 years old, and the expansion of senior job opportunities.
The city plans to continue actively developing customized welfare policies for seniors to create 'Gumi, a city where all seniors are happy.'

The ceremony began with lively pre-event performances by singers Hwang Taeja and Choi Jihyun. It was followed by the reading of the Senior Citizens' Charter, the presentation of appreciation plaques, commendations for meritorious individuals, opening remarks, commemorative speeches, and congratulatory addresses. There were also performances and programs in which seniors could directly participate, receiving enthusiastic responses.
In particular, 74 individuals-including exemplary seniors, contributors to the development of senior welfare, and recipients of filial piety awards-were honored at the event. They were recognized for their dedication to their communities and neighbors in their respective roles and received warm applause.
Lee Jaeho, President of the Gumi Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, presented an appreciation plaque to Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, in recognition of his efforts to improve senior welfare, conveying the gratitude of the senior members.
Elsewhere at the venue, an exhibition of works created by seniors as part of the 'Mobile Horticultural Therapy Program' attracted attention.
Seniors who participated in the program expressed their pride, saying, "We are delighted to see our own creations on display," with bright smiles on their faces.
One senior attendee shared, "It has been a long time since I have felt this happy, laughing and enjoying time with friends at an event like this."
Lee Dong-eun, President of the Gumi Junior Chamber, stated, "Thanks to the lifelong dedication of our seniors to the local community, Gumi is what it is today. We will continue to uphold the spirit of respect for the elderly and filial piety, and promote communication and harmony between generations."
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, remarked, "I sincerely thank the seniors who have been the pillars of Gumi's development. We will continue to implement meticulous welfare policies so that all seniors can live respected and happy lives."
