During the opening remarks of the U.S.-China summit held at Naraemaru, the reception hall at the Air Force Base in Gimhae Airport, Busan, President Xi said, "President Trump contributed to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and facilitated an agreement regarding the Thailand-Cambodia border in Malaysia," adding these comments.

He continued, "China, for its part, has also played a role in resolving the border issue between Cambodia and Thailand," and added, "As major powers, China and the United States bear significant responsibility for global affairs."

President Xi also stated, "We hope to continue contributing for the sake of both countries and the world, and I look forward to productive discussions today on important matters concerning both nations and the world."

President Xi commented, "Even though there are various headwinds, setbacks, and challenges, the U.S.-China relationship must continue moving in the right direction together."

President Xi gave a positive assessment of the U.S.-China relationship. He said, "Overall, the U.S.-China relationship has remained very stable," and added, "Since the circumstances of each country are always different, there may be times when we do not agree, and this is normal."

He also expressed his willingness to cooperate with the United States. He said, "China is ready to work with the United States, and the U.S. and China should be friends," explaining, "China's development goes hand in hand with the 'Make America Great Again' vision."

This meeting between President Trump and President Xi is the first since the beginning of Trump's second term. The two leaders last met in June 2019 at the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, and are sitting down together again after six years and four months.
