Dubai Creek Resort to Host Opening on January 15
Runner-up in 2024, McIlroy Aims for the Title This Year
Pro-Am Format: 60 Professionals and 60 Amateurs to Compete
World No. 2 Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland will compete in the 2026 Dubai Invitational.
The tournament organizing committee announced on the 29th that McIlroy will participate in the Dubai Invitational, which will be held at Dubai Creek Resort from January 15 to 18 next year. After finishing as runner-up in the 2024 tournament, he will return after two years. At that time, he competed for the title with Tommy Fleetwood from England but lost by one stroke.
Currently leading this year's Race to Dubai points, McIlroy will kick off the new season next year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by playing in both the Dubai Invitational and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The Dubai Invitational serves as the opening event of the Race to Dubai. It is held in a pro-am format over three days, with only professional players competing on the final day. A total of 60 DP World Tour professionals and 60 amateurs will participate.
The Hero Dubai Desert Classic is the first Rolex Series event of the DP World Tour. McIlroy has won this tournament four times. Having achieved a career Grand Slam last year, McIlroy shared his excitement, saying, "I'm really looking forward to starting the new year in Dubai. The UAE is always a place filled with great memories for me. I am hoping for even better results this year."
