Planting “Green” in Urban Gardens... Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service Launches Urban Garden Cultivation and Carbon Neutrality Campaign

Campaign Held in Collaboration with Jung-gu, Ulsan

The Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service (President Park Jonggil) has launched an environmental campaign to plant “green” in the heart of the city.

On October 29, the organization held the “Urban Garden Cultivation and Carbon Neutrality Campaign with Local Residents” in collaboration with Jung-gu, Ulsan, delivering the message that responding to the climate crisis begins with “small actions in our daily lives.”

About 40 people participated in the event, including executives and employees of the organization, Jung-gu Ulsan officials, the Ujeong-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee, the Tongjanghoe, and local civic groups such as the Jonggatjip Environmental Guardians. They carried out activities such as planting chrysanthemums, removing weeds, and cleaning up the environment at the Pureun Seed Garden, the Four Seasons Garden, and the Ujeong-dong Outdoor Garden (Gaon Masil-gil).

The Pureun Seed Garden is a representative local climate garden, jointly created in 2023 by the Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service and Jung-gu, Ulsan, through a business agreement to promote carbon neutrality by utilizing idle land.

The name “Pureun Seed” comes from the nickname of the retirement pension fund system for small and medium-sized enterprises operated by the organization, reflecting the philosophy of enriching workers’ retirement lives, now put into practice through actions that enhance the local environment.

This year, the Pureun Seed Garden was expanded with the addition of the Four Seasons Garden, and the selection of the Ujeong-dong Outdoor Garden (Gaon Masil-gil) for the Korea Forest Service’s Everyday Forest Project further broadened the garden network.

Park Jonggil, President of the Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service, emphasized, “Although these are small gardens in the city, the process of cultivating them together with citizens is an important starting point for spreading carbon neutrality,” adding, “The organization will continue to work with the local community to create positive change.”
