At around 6:05 a.m. on October 29, a fire broke out in the second basement parking lot of an 11-story officetel in Burim-dong, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, while an electric vehicle was charging.
Due to the fire, approximately 100 residents of the officetel evacuated, and 15 people were taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke.
One firefighter who injured his finger during the firefighting operation was also transported to the hospital.
No fatalities or serious injuries have been reported.
After receiving the report, the fire authorities dispatched 28 fire trucks and 115 personnel, brought the main blaze under control by 7:17 a.m., and completely extinguished the fire by 9:11 a.m. on the same day.
The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage, based on witness statements that a 'bang' explosion was heard and a vehicle was found on fire in the basement parking lot at the time of the incident.
