Sunmoon University's 'G90' Self-Built Car Team Wins Bronze at National Smart e-Mobility Competition

The 'G90 (Engineering Students Saving the Earth)' team, a self-built automobile club from the Department of Future Automotive Engineering at Sunmoon University, won the bronze prize at the '2025 University Student Smart e-Mobility Competition' hosted by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers.

Sunmoon University was recognized for its EV design and manufacturing technology, as well as driving stability, in this competition, which saw participation from 56 teams representing 44 universities nationwide.

According to Sunmoon University on October 29, the competition was held from October 24 to 26, 2025, at the Korea Automotive Technology Institute e-Mobility Research Center in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do. It is the largest domestic competition where university students compete with electric vehicles they have built themselves.

The 'G90' team consists of 25 members-24 from the Department of Future Automotive Engineering and 1 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Led by team leader Kim Junhyeong and vice team leader Lee Jonghwan, the team implemented in-wheel motor and differential control technologies, maximizing cornering performance and achieving stable driving.

They also showcased a high level of completeness by applying the latest battery technology and an efficient power transmission system.

Team leader Kim Junhyeong said, "We faced unexpected challenges such as output control issues during the competition, but we overcame them through teamwork and achieved a good result. Through on-site experience, we were able to directly feel the technical limitations and directions for improvement."

The Department of Future Automotive Engineering at Sunmoon University aims to become a specialized hub university for the automotive industry in the central region, nurturing core talent for future mobility based on advanced practice infrastructure and industry-academic cooperation.

This participation was made possible with joint support from the Sunmoon University RISE Project Group, Chungnam Mobility Innovation Center, and the Future Automotive Specialization Project Group (COSS).
