[Market Feature] Kakao Surges Over 6% on ChatGPT Integration

Kakao is showing strong performance on October 29. This is due to the full integration of OpenAI's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, ChatGPT, into KakaoTalk.

As of 10:00 a.m. on this day, Kakao is trading at 68,100 won, up 4,400 won (6.91%) from the previous trading day.

It is interpreted that investor sentiment surged after KakaoTalk launched the "ChatGPT for Kakao" service the previous day. Expectations have been reflected that KakaoTalk can expand its revenue by offering a variety of extended services using ChatGPT.

Through this new service, KakaoTalk users can click the ChatGPT button at the top of the chat tab to access the service. Users can share ChatGPT's answers in chat rooms or ask questions directly to ChatGPT during conversations in the chat room.

Depending on the question, the service connects with "Kakao Tools," which are linked to KakaoMap, KakaoTalk Reservation, KakaoTalk Gift, Melon, and more, to provide appropriate answers. For example, if a user asks ChatGPT, "Tell me where I can buy croffles near Hapjeong Station," Kakao Tools will call up KakaoMap to provide specific locations and information.

Jung Euihoon, a researcher at Eugene Investment & Securities, explained, "As generative AI services advance and demand for them increases, the demand for paid models will also rise. With KakaoTalk's high accessibility in Korea, the number of new ChatGPT service users and subscription revenue is expected to show an upward trend in the future."
