Citibank Korea Runs Internship Program with Kyung Hee University for 20 Years

Sponsorship Agreement Ceremony for NGO Internship Program
Delivery of 200 Million Won in Sponsorship Funds
1,600 University Students Have Gained Experience Since 2006

Citibank Korea announced on October 28 that it held a sponsorship agreement ceremony for the "20th Citi-Kyung Hee University NGO Internship Program" with Kyung Hee University at the Citibank Korea headquarters in Jongno, Seoul, and delivered a sponsorship fund of 200 million won.

Since 2006, the "Citi-Kyung Hee University NGO Internship Program," jointly run by Citibank Korea and the Graduate School of Public Policy & Civic Engagement at Kyung Hee University, has supported undergraduate and graduate student interns in gaining hands-on experience in civic group activities at non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the country during the winter break. Through this program, participating students gain an understanding of the role of NGOs and the value of social contribution, building experience to grow as leaders in civil society. Participating organizations aim to enhance their professionalism and social contribution capabilities through the passion and ideas of young people. To date, approximately 1,600 students have participated and directly experienced a variety of social issues alongside NGO organizations.

This year, 63 undergraduate and graduate students have been selected as interns and will work at around 60 NGOs nationwide. After attending a pre-orientation session on topics such as "Understanding Korean Civil Society and NGOs," the students will participate in an eight-week field practicum from December 22 to February 13 of the following year. Interns who faithfully complete all requirements will receive an activity stipend and a certificate of completion, while participants who excel in team activities will be awarded prizes and certificates. Eligible applicants are students currently enrolled or on leave from domestic or overseas universities at the time of application, with an interest in and willingness to participate in NGO activities. Applications can be submitted by email to the NGO Internship Secretariat until November 24.

Youngsoo Yoo, President of Citibank Korea, stated, "For the past 20 years, Citibank Korea has supported young people in gaining direct experience and considering ways to contribute to society together with Kyung Hee University. Going forward, Citibank will continue to strive not only for corporate growth but also to be a partner in advancing civil society, helping young people become key agents of social change."
