Jindo County in South Jeolla Province was recognized for its achievements in youth protection and crime prevention policies, receiving a government commendation.
On October 28, the county was awarded the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award in the "Protection of Socially Vulnerable Groups" category at the 10th Korea Crime Prevention Awards ceremony, jointly hosted by the National Police Agency, JoongAng Ilbo, and JTBC.
The Korea Crime Prevention Awards are given to organizations, groups, and companies that have demonstrated exemplary crime prevention activities in various fields to create safer local communities.
The county was highly praised for its outstanding achievements in areas such as protecting and providing early support for at-risk youth, preventing digital sex crimes, strengthening cooperation systems with related agencies, and offering education to prevent school violence and online gambling.
In particular, the Jindo Youth Welfare Center established a proactive protection system by identifying at-risk youth in a timely manner, reflecting the characteristics of the island region, and enhancing counseling and support for youth under probation. Additionally, by expanding education on new types of crimes such as AI-generated synthetic videos (deepfakes), the center is strengthening the local youth safety network.
County Governor Kim Heesu stated, "Our efforts together with county residents to create a safe and respectful environment for youth have borne fruit," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost so that children can freely pursue their dreams in Jindo."
