This briefing was organized to resolve issues such as customs clearance delays and weakened price competitiveness faced by local export companies, as the United States has recently raised tariff rates on major items and strengthened customs procedures, thereby expanding import regulations.
The briefing session covered the following topics: an explanation of major changes in the US tariff and customs system; trends in the US export market; support measures for companies responding to tariffs; and key practical checkpoints for coping with changes in tariff policies.
In the first session, Hyun Dajeong, Manager of the Regional Trade Research Office at KOTRA, explained the current status of US tariff measures by country and item under the theme "Key Points of Korea-US Tariff Negotiations and Trends in the US Export Market." Manager Hyun guided participants on issues of concern arising from strengthened customs inspections in the United States and emphasized the importance of managing origin data for export companies.
In the following presentation, Kim Hanseung, Team Leader of KOTRA's Local Cooperation Team, introduced government and related agency support programs under the theme "Support Measures for Companies Responding to Tariffs." He explained practical ways to utilize initiatives such as the "Tariff Response 119" program for companies experiencing tariff difficulties, export legal consulting, and linkage programs with customs clearance specialists.
In the third session, Park Sunghyun, Team Leader at Shinhan Customs Corporation, presented on "Practical Checkpoints for Responding to Changes in US Tariff Policy." Team Leader Park suggested practical response strategies such as specifying tariff clauses in export contracts, strengthening origin management, and utilizing preferential tariffs, and shared concrete procedures and precautions through real company case studies.
Notably, at the end of the briefing, KOTRA export specialists and customs agents participated directly to conduct one-on-one customized consultations, carefully diagnosing the damage situations and export readiness of each company and providing response strategies tailored to their characteristics. Through this, companies were able to lay the foundation for minimizing short-term damages and securing mid- to long-term export competitiveness.
Hanam City stated that this program will not be a one-off event, and that it will continue to promptly identify and respond to difficulties faced by companies due to policy changes in major export destinations by providing ongoing training and customized support.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae said, "I hope this briefing will serve as an opportunity for Hanam City companies to take a step further into overseas markets and secure global competitiveness," adding, "We will continue to actively support companies so they can respond wisely to changes in the export market and seek out new opportunities."
