Seo Won, a member of the Nonsan City Council from the Democratic Party of Korea, officially declared his candidacy for mayor of Nonsan in the June 3 local elections next year on the 28th, stating, "I will make Nonsan the sports capital of Korea."
At a press conference held in the Nonsan City Council meeting room that day, Assemblyman Seo said, "I will establish a large-scale sports town in Nonsan to attract nationwide competitions and sports teams for training camps," adding, "I will nurture the sports industry as a new growth engine for the Nonsan economy."
He emphasized, "Just as Gimcheon achieved an annual regional economic effect of 35 billion won, Nonsan can do the same," and continued, "I will create an 'economy-driven sports town' where not just a single stadium, but the entire city is mobilized."
He further stated, "It is difficult to restore regional vitality with job policies focused solely on manufacturing," and explained, "Fostering the sports industry, linked with tourism, culture, accommodation, and transportation, is the solution for a sustainable Nonsan economy."
Assemblyman Seo said, "My candidacy for mayor is a promise to make city administration work with a citizen-centered approach," and added, "Although Nonsan is facing a complex crisis with population outflow, youth exodus, and care disparities, a crisis can become an opportunity for a leap forward if we change direction."
He stressed, "Politics is not about the skill of defeating opponents, but about the ability to solve citizens' problems," and added, "The field provides more answers than the meeting room, and data reduces disputes more than words."
In particular, he pointed out, "The problem in Nonsan is not backwardness, but stalled growth," and emphasized, "People and opportunities are more important than projects, and if we do not make decisions now, neither people nor industry will return."
He also quoted an elderly resident saying, "If the village bus makes one more round, I feel like I could make it to the hospital," and a young person saying, "If there are places to play, work, and live, I will not leave," stressing that "Politics in Nonsan should start not with grand slogans, but with tangible changes felt by citizens."
Assemblyman Seo emphasized, "Politics has always considered budgets spent on adults as investments and those spent on children and youth as costs," and vowed, "I will definitely change this distorted perception."
He continued, "Improving welfare, care, and accessibility is not only growth infrastructure that attracts businesses, but also an investment in the future," adding, "With fair and transparent finances, I will ensure that funds are used exactly when and where they are needed. Only when citizens trust city administration can it gain strength."
Assemblyman Seo stressed, "Nonsan does not need a mayor who repeats the past, but one who designs the future and proves it through action," and pledged, "I will be a mayor who implements with responsibility, principles, and common sense."
