At the time, the Mobile Patrol Unit was patrolling the Daerim-dong area to prevent violent crimes when they spotted Mr. A attempting to jaywalk across a four-lane road. They tried to stop him using the vehicle loudspeaker, but Mr. A ignored the warning, crossed the street illegally, and entered an alley. The police pursued Mr. A and requested identification, but he claimed to be a U.S. citizen and refused to show any ID, attempting to leave the scene.

Due to Mr. A's suspicious behavior, the police persistently checked his identity and discovered that he was a wanted suspect with arrest warrants issued for two charges, including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud). From 2021 to 2023, Mr. A allegedly defrauded multiple victims of approximately 9.6 billion won through 292 separate instances, claiming to have connections with foreign government officials to solicit investments. He had been on the run for about a year since 2024 until his arrest.

A representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "The Mobile Patrol Unit was able to prevent crimes in advance and apprehend wanted suspects by conducting detailed foot patrols and checking suspicious individuals in crowded and crime-prone areas. We will continue to strengthen preventive patrols in areas where there is concern about violent crimes, such as relationship-based crimes and crimes with abnormal motives, and do our utmost to enhance the public's sense of safety." Previously, in August, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Mobile Patrol Unit also apprehended a wanted suspect for a 17.7 billion won fraud case who tried to flee after discarding a cigarette butt near Sillim Station in Gwanak-gu.
