A Two-Day Festival Filled with Food and Performances
Centered on Salted Shrimp, an Essential Ingredient for Kimchi Season
The 9th Island Salted Shrimp Festival, held at Sinan Jeotgal Town in Jido-eup, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, concluded successfully over two days, from October 24 to 25, with enthusiastic participation from local residents and tourists.
According to the county on October 27, this year’s festival, themed around salted shrimp-a staple seafood during kimchi-making season-featured a variety of programs designed for both locals and visitors to enjoy together.
The festival included a free tasting event of salted shrimp kimchi bossam, a recorder performance by students from Jido Elementary School, a special stage by singer Hyun Jinwoo, and a singing contest, creating intergenerational experiences. In addition, related events such as the Jido Mudflat Food Festival and the Island Samamsan Hiking Competition, held alongside the main festival, proved highly popular and enhanced the synergy among local festivals.
With this year’s Salted Shrimp Festival, the county successfully wrapped up the 2025 Island Seafood Festival series and plans to continue hosting events next year to promote seasonal seafood and the unique cultures of each island.
A county official stated, “This year’s festival became a venue for local harmony, blending food and festivity,” adding, “We will continue to hold various festivals to widely promote Sinan’s seafood and island culture in the future.”
