Shinan County in South Jeolla Province has completed the payment of the "Sunlight Child Allowance" for the second half of 2025, a program designed to promote the welfare of local children and alleviate the child-rearing burden on parents.

The county announced on the 27th that, in cooperation with the Renewable Energy Cooperative Federation, it provided a total of 1.9158 billion won in allowances over a three-day period from the 22nd to the 24th. This year, 3,193 children under the age of 18 with registered addresses in Shinan County benefited from the program.

The Sunlight Child Allowance was first introduced in 2023 at 400,000 won per child annually and has increased each year, reaching 1.2 million won per child in 2025. The cumulative amount distributed so far totals 7.2 billion won.

The county allows recipients to choose between receiving the allowance as a local gift certificate or depositing it into a Sunlight Child Savings Account. Notably, 1,381 children, accounting for 43% of all eligible recipients, have enrolled in the savings account, which offers up to a 7.5% preferential interest rate at maturity, thereby contributing to future asset building.

Kim Daein, Acting County Governor, stated, "The Sunlight Child Allowance is a practical welfare policy that creates an environment where children can grow up happily and eases the burden of child-rearing for parents. We will continue to improve and expand the program to further enrich the lives of children and families."

Meanwhile, the Sunlight Child Allowance is being recognized as an innovative welfare model that shares renewable energy profits with residents and contributes to both revitalizing the local economy and enhancing child welfare.
