Full-Scale Launch of the "Hanma Global Sprint" Program
Kyungnam University has launched the 'Hanma Global Sprint' program for freshmen aspiring to study abroad, taking a significant step toward innovation in global education.
The university's newly introduced internationalization strategy, 'Hanma Global Sprint,' aims to provide diverse learning opportunities on a global stage from the moment of admission. The program has been in full operation since September, marking the beginning of a large-scale initiative to enhance global competencies.
Under the slogan "Starting Point: Kyungnam University, Campus: The World," this program is a short-term overseas training opportunity directly organized by each department for freshmen.
The training takes place in major cities in Japan, China, and Taiwan, where students not only experience local culture but also visit institutions related to their majors to develop their global competencies. The program also covers necessary expenses such as airfare and accommodation.
So far, a total of six departments-including the Department of Trade and Logistics, School of Business Administration, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Physical Therapy, Department of Culinary Arts, and Department of Mathematics Education-have completed training in countries such as Japan and China. All other departments are scheduled to participate sequentially in the future.
The response from participating students has been positive. Jung Hyunseok, a student from the Department of Culinary Arts who completed his training in Osaka, shared, "I have always been interested in ramen cuisine, and it was a valuable experience to make ramen myself and learn about the manufacturing process in detail at the Nissin Cup Noodles Museum in Osaka. I want to actively seek opportunities to learn and grow abroad to further develop my global competencies."
Internationalization programs for current students are also attracting significant attention. To strengthen global competencies, Kyungnam University offers language training programs in various countries-including the United States, Japan, the Philippines, and China-not only during the semester but also during vacation periods. Depending on the program, students who participate receive various benefits such as elective credits, intensive TOEIC training, cultural experiences, and opportunities for local internship interviews.
President Park Jaekyu stated, "Hanma Global Sprint is a structural innovation that provides equal global learning opportunities to all students and marks a new beginning for Kyungnam University's international education. We will continue to pursue internationalization policies that drive students' practical growth and lead the new direction of higher education in Korea."
Meanwhile, over the past eight years, Kyungnam University has provided approximately 3,000 students with opportunities for overseas training, internships, and volunteer activities, achieving internationalization results totaling 7.6 billion won.
