Presided over by Vice Mayor Jang Sangkil, the briefing was attended by more than 20 experts from industry, academia, and research, including the Director of Future Advanced Industries at Gyeongbuk Province, the Director of Job and Economy at Pohang City, the Director of Battery Advanced Industries, as well as representatives from Gyeongbuk Technopark, Pohang Technopark, POMIA, and the Gyeongbuk Pohang Secondary Battery Industry Council. The participants conducted a comprehensive review of the detailed preparations for the expo.
The "International Battery Expo 2025 Pohang" is the first secondary battery exhibition and fair to be held in Gyeongbuk Province. Under the theme "Beyond Batteries, Powering Tomorrow," more than 30 domestic and international companies, research institutes, universities, and government agencies will participate, creating a venue for exhibitions and exchanges that encompass technology, policy, and investment in the battery industry.
Building on the achievements of the "Pohang International Conference for Leading Battery Cities," which has been held annually since 2020, the city has enhanced the quality and expanded the scope of the event. This year's expo has been developed into a comprehensive industrial platform that integrates technology exchange, investment consulting, and international cooperation.
During the briefing, the final plans for key programs-including the corporate exhibition hall, conference, investment consulting sessions, corporate networking, and battery industry field tours-were confirmed. The participants also conducted a final review of detailed operational plans, including event logistics, safety management, interpretation, and protocol.
In particular, the corporate exhibition hall will be centered around Pohang's leading anchor companies, Ecopro and POSCO Future M, which will showcase their core material technologies and production capabilities for cathode and anode materials. Regional mid-sized and small businesses, as well as startups, will also participate to share technological achievements in materials, equipment, and process innovation, while strengthening collaboration networks between domestic and international companies.
The international conference will feature speakers from key partner countries in the global battery industry, including Korea, Germany, and the four Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland). The conference will address core topics such as battery recycling, material technology innovation, and energy transition through country-specific sessions, sharing industry trends and policy directions.
Vice Mayor Jang Sangkil stated, "This expo will serve as an opportunity for Pohang to become a global hub for the battery industry, surpassing its status within Korea," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the event matches Pohang's stature as a designated national advanced strategic industrial complex."
Pohang City plans to use this expo to solidify its status as a specialized cluster for secondary battery materials, expand domestic and international industry-academia-research collaboration networks, and establish itself as a global hub for the future battery industry.
In particular, by presenting a full-cycle industrial ecosystem and a global technology cooperation model centered on Pohang, the city expects this event to serve as a catalyst for sustainable growth in Korea's battery industry.
