Yeungnam University Professor Nogeun Park Receives Minister of SMEs and Startups Commendation: "Contributing to the Development of the Local Corporate Ecosystem"

Yeungnam University (President Choi Oechul) announced on the 27th that Professor Nogeun Park of the Department of Advanced Materials Engineering has recently received a commendation from the Minister of SMEs and Startups. This recognition was awarded for his contributions to strengthening the technological competitiveness of local small and venture businesses and advancing the industry through cutting-edge metal materials research and industry-academia cooperation activities.


Professor Park has been at the forefront of research on advanced special alloys, including high-value-added steel alloys, high-entropy alloys, titanium alloys, and superalloys. He has worked closely with companies in the Gyeongbuk region. Through research based on industry-academia collaboration, he has contributed to improving corporate technological capabilities and developing the industrial ecosystem. Over the past five years, he has published more than 100 papers in SCI-level journals, consistently achieving outstanding research results.

He has published numerous papers in influential international journals such as the Journal of Materials Science & Technology, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and Corrosion Science. In 2025, he demonstrated his international competitiveness by publishing research results in a world-renowned journal with an impact factor above 20.


In addition, in collaboration with Gyeongbuk Technopark, he is conducting the 'AI-based Intelligent Advanced Materials Talent Development Project (RISE-REGO),' promoting research and education tailored to the needs of local industries. As the team leader of the Yeungnam University BK21 project group, he is leading a project to foster future convergence talents in advanced materials, and as the principal investigator of an eco-friendly metal materials industry talent development project, he is working to lay the foundation for the region’s sustainable industrial growth.


Professor Park's laboratory operates under the philosophy of a 'Research-Problem Solving Playground,' creating an environment where students can conduct research autonomously and solve problems creatively. By introducing innovative educational methods such as encouraging enjoyable and open discussions for research and problem solving, he strengthens students’ independent thinking and collaboration skills. The lab also practices a culture of exploring research problems from diverse perspectives through joint supervision by multiple faculty members.
