The National Museum of Korea announced on October 27 that it will hold the "Museum Book Giveaway" event to celebrate the autumn reading season, offering more than 100 copies of 24 different publications, including exhibition catalogs, single-volume books, and children's books.
This event is designed to promote the museum's publishing activities and introduce a variety of its publications. Participation is open until October 31 through the museum's official Bookstagram account, and the winners will be announced on November 5.
The 24 giveaway titles are divided into six categories: "Special Exhibition Catalogs," "Museum Education," "Children's Books," "Single-Volume Books," "Art Collections," and "Permanent Exhibitions." Each book is assigned a number from 1 to 24. To enter, participants must follow the Bookstagram account and leave a comment with the number of the book they want.
In addition to catalogs and academic publications, the museum has published a wide range of genres, including essays, picture books, and workbooks. As these publications are produced in small quantities with a focus on research, documentation, and visitor services rather than sales, they are highly valued for their planning, content, and quality. This event will offer more than 100 copies of 24 titles, including out-of-print and non-commercial editions. The giveaway selection includes a variety of publications such as the "National Museum of Korea Permanent Exhibition Catalog," "Colorful Decorative Paintings of the Joseon Dynasty," "Yumoolmeong," "Museum Writing," and "Duji's Magic Jar (Korean/English)."
The "Special Exhibition Catalog" category features high-quality images and detailed explanations by curators, making them highly collectible. As these catalogs are often difficult to obtain after an exhibition ends due to discontinued sales, the museum will provide some of its reserved copies to offer visitors a special opportunity through this event.
The "Children's Books" category includes five titles, such as "Duji's Magic Jar (Korean/English)." The selection comprises various types of books, including original picture books and activity books. These books are designed to spark children's interest in cultural heritage and make it accessible in everyday life. Most are non-commercial or produced in limited quantities, making them hard to find in the market.
The "Single-Volume Books" category includes the essay collection "Yumoolmeong," featuring curators' and visitors' favorite artifacts, while the "Museum Education" category offers diverse publications such as "Museum Writing," which covers the museum's various writing processes.
