The everyday nature of Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, has been reborn as a new tourist destination. Yangpyeong County has officially opened the riverside multipurpose cultural space, "Namhangang Terrace," created through an urban regeneration project, accelerating its transformation into a residential tourism city enjoyed by both residents and visitors.

According to Yangpyeong County on October 27, the newly opened "Namhangang Terrace" stretches about 1.1 kilometers from Yanggeun Bridge to Yangpyeong Bridge in Yangpyeong-eup.

Yangpyeong County invested a total budget of 9.5 billion won in the urban regeneration project "Namhangang Riverside Specialized Street Development Project," transforming the Namhangang riverside into a multipurpose cultural tourism attraction with pleasant walking trails, cultural and artistic themed streets, and waterfront and rest areas.

A new 5-meter-wide deck path was added to the existing walking trail, along with benches, street trees, and nighttime landscape lighting, creating an attractive space where visitors can enjoy views of the Namhangang during the day and experience a street of lights at night. This project, which harmoniously blends the pristine Namhangang waterway with the fruits of urban regeneration, has revitalized the central riverside area of Yangpyeong.

To commemorate the completion, Yangpyeong County successfully hosted the "2025 Yangpyeong Muldeulim Terrace Festival" on a special stage in front of the county office on October 26.

The event was designed to share the achievements of urban regeneration with residents and create a festival where the local economy and culture come together. At the terrace market, Yangpyeong’s specialty products and handicrafts were exhibited and sold, while the "Yangchelin Market" featured a cooking contest and classes using local products, receiving an enthusiastic response from visitors. Additionally, the "Terrace Concert" by local artists and an "archiving exhibition" highlighting the changes brought by urban regeneration filled the riverside with energy and music throughout the day.

The county also linked this festival with Yangpyeong’s signature walking trail, "Mulsorigil." Under the slogan "Mulsori Again Course 4: Invitation to Namhangang Terrace," a 13.1-kilometer walk was held from Wondeok Station to Namhangang Terrace, allowing participants to enjoy both the pleasures of walking in nature and the excitement of the riverside festival. Participants who savored the autumn scenery along the Namhangang riverside enjoyed a variety of programs connected to the Yangpyeong Muldeulim Terrace Festival at the final destination, fully experiencing the charm of Yangpyeong.

Furthermore, with the opening of Namhangang Terrace, Yangpyeong County is rapidly pushing forward the "Yangpyeong-eup Tourism Resource Development Project," aiming to foster Yangpyeong-eup as a tourism hub connecting the western Dumulmeori and the eastern Yongmunsan areas.

Yangpyeong County plans to establish the "Yanggang Cultural Belt" and develop Yangpyeong-eup into a residential tourism resource through projects such as the construction of the Y-shaped suspension bridge at Mulan Gae Park, the "127 Terrace Green Yangpyeong Downtown" Gyeonggi The Dream Urban Regeneration Project, the Namhangang Nightscape Lighting Project, and the Yanggeuncheon Cheonggyecheon Transformation Project.

Among these, the Y-shaped suspension bridge project aims to connect Yanggang Island, Tteodeureong Island, and Mulan Gae Park with a bridge floating over the river, and to create a walking trail within Tteodeureong Island, which was previously off-limits. The project is scheduled for completion next year. Once finished, it is expected to become a tourist attraction where visitors can enjoy the natural scenery of the Hangang River while touring all three islands.

In addition, the "127 Terrace Green Yangpyeong Downtown" urban regeneration project, which will be carried out from next year through 2028, is a core initiative to improve residential conditions and create new local attractions by revitalizing the Yanggeun-ri area. Community squares and a local culture attraction lab, linked with the newly completed Namhangang Terrace, are also planned.

Yanggeuncheon is also undergoing a transformation. Starting from groundbreaking in September, by the end of 2027, a 4-kilometer stretch of Yanggeuncheon will be equipped with expanded pedestrian bridges, wooden bridges, rest areas, parks, improved drop structures, and lighting facilities, creating a space for relaxation and walking on par with Cheonggyecheon.

Additionally, the "Namhangang Riverside Nightscape Project," connecting Yanggang Island to Galsan Park, is underway.

Landscape lighting, building fa?ade lighting, and scenic lighthouses are being sequentially installed in the Mulan Gae Park and Galsan Park sections, creating a safe and inviting nighttime tourism environment. Through these projects, Yangpyeong County aims not only to increase visitors’ length of stay and revitalize the local economy, but also to provide residents with a safer and more pleasant living environment.

Jeon Jinseon, Yangpyeong County Governor, stated, "The newly opened Namhangang Terrace will become the new center of Yangpyeong tourism, beautifully blending the county’s scenic natural landscape with urban regeneration. By expanding the natural attractions of nearby Yanggang Island, Yanggeuncheon, and Galsan Park as tourism content, we will inject new vitality into the region and promote Yangpyeong’s unique appeal, making it a destination that attracts frequent visitors."
