Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province will hold the "2025 Jeonju Human Rights Empathy Cultural Event" over two days, November 11 and 12, at the Jeonju City Hall auditorium, the busking zone at Jeonbukdae Shopping Street, and other locations throughout Jeonju.
According to the city on October 27, this event has been organized to reflect on the meaning of human rights with citizens and to promote a culture of respect for human rights in Jeonju, a city known for its commitment to human rights, ahead of World Human Rights Day (December 10).
With the theme "Human Rights Are Always With Us," the event will take place at the Jeonju City Hall auditorium, the busking zone at Jeonbukdae Shopping Street, and the Book Pillar Library in the City Hall lobby. It will feature a variety of programs that allow citizens to experience the value of human rights in their daily lives, including a special lecture on human rights, cultural performances, human rights film screenings, and promotional booths.
On November 11, former Constitutional Court Justice Moon Hyungbae will be invited to deliver a special lecture for citizens at the City Hall auditorium on the topic "Constitutional Petitions, Democracy, and Human Rights." During this lecture, Mr. Moon will share insights with citizens about the essence of human rights and the value of democracy through the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Prior to the special lecture, there will be a sand art performance on the theme of human rights sensitivity as a pre-show, with around 400 citizens and public officials attending to share and reflect on the meaning of human rights.
On November 12, a human rights cultural performance will be held at the busking zone at Jeonbukdae Shopping Street, where citizens can enjoy the event together. The cultural performance will convey messages of diversity and respect for human rights through a moving performance by the Neurugeoreum Disabled Ensemble and a jazz concert. In addition, a human rights promotional booth will be set up on-site to introduce the concept of human rights and the Jeonju Human Rights Center.
During the event period, the Book Pillar Library in the Jeonju City Hall lobby will screen human rights films to enhance citizens' sensitivity to human rights. Specifically, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea's omnibus films, "Star Stories 1" (rated for all audiences, consisting of six short films about people with disabilities, migrant workers, and others) and "If You Were Me" (rated 12 and over, consisting of five short films about non-regular workers, discrimination, etc.), will each be screened twice daily, in the morning and afternoon, on November 11 and 12.
Choi Hyunchang, Director of Planning and Coordination, stated, "This Human Rights Empathy Cultural Event will be a meaningful occasion for citizens to naturally experience the value of human rights in their everyday lives and to spread a healthy social atmosphere of mutual respect. We will continue to do our best to realize Jeonju as a city where human rights are respected."
