Chonnam National University Hospital announced on October 27 that it has begun full-scale operation of the state-of-the-art CT equipment 'Somatom Force,' which incorporates the latest in radiology technology.
Recently, the hospital held a launch ceremony for the advanced CT at the Radiology Department's CT room on the 2nd floor of Building 1, attended by President Jung Shin, Vice President Yoon Kyungchul, Administrative Director Kim Youngmin, Nursing Director Choi Myungyi, and Radiology Department Head Baek Byunghyun.
Unlike conventional CT equipment, the Somatom Force is a third-generation dual-source CT equipped with two X-ray tubes and detectors, enabling faster and more accurate imaging. With a scanning speed of approximately 74 cm per second, it can produce high-quality images even for obese patients, unconscious patients, and those who have difficulty controlling their breathing.
It also features high resolution, capable of distinguishing micro-lesions as small as 0.3 mm, making it widely applicable for imaging diagnostics of the brain, heart, abdomen, and other areas. In particular, the latest Iterative Reconstruction (IR) technique and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based image reconstruction technology have been applied, allowing for ultra-low-dose X-ray imaging and clear images even with a small amount of contrast agent.
Through this equipment, the risk of contrast agent side effects can be minimized and radiation exposure can be significantly reduced for patients with impaired kidney function or those in critical condition, thereby improving both patient safety and examination efficiency.
A representative from Chonnam National University Hospital stated, "With the introduction of the Somatom Force, we can now provide faster and more accurate examinations for critically ill or emergency patients who require precise imaging diagnostics," adding, "We will continue to strengthen patient safety-centered medical services and contribute to the advancement of regional healthcare by expanding advanced medical equipment."
