"It Is Time to Listen to and Act on Public Sentiment"
Former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon stated on the 27th that he has "no intention to run" in the local elections scheduled for June next year.
During an appearance on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyunjung's News Show" that day, Han responded to a question about conservative commentator Cho Gabje's advice that Han should make a bold move and run in a surprising district if the election season begins. Han replied, "I tend to speak honestly about what I think at the moment," and reiterated, "I have no intention to run."
However, he noted, "There is still a lot of time left," and added, "While listening to public sentiment and meeting with hundreds of people, we talk about issues like rising prices, the U.S. tariff agreement, and real estate. But whenever I come to Yeouido, all I hear is, 'You should run somewhere.'"
He continued, "Even just the land transaction permit system can fundamentally change the dynamics of the local elections. Rather than speculating about what will happen now, I believe it is much more productive to focus on listening to public sentiment and trying to act in accordance with it." Han has recently been traveling across the country on a public sentiment tour.
When asked, "So you have no intention at the moment, but is it possible that things could change depending on the situation in June next year?" he replied, "Let's talk about it in June next year," leaving the possibility open.
