The U.S. Department of Labor announced on October 24 (local time) that the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September rose by 3.0% year-on-year and by 0.3% month-on-month.
The core CPI, which excludes highly volatile items such as energy and food, increased by 3.0% compared to the same month last year and by 0.2% from the previous month.
Both the year-on-year and month-on-month increases in the headline and core indices were 0.1 percentage points lower than the expert forecasts compiled by Dow Jones.
