On October 24, the KOSPI settled above the 3,940 mark, once again setting a new all-time high. Now, only 60 points remain until 'Sacheonpi' (KOSPI 4,000).
On this day, the KOSPI closed at 3,941.59, up 96.03 points (2.50%) from the previous session. The index opened at 3,893.23, up 47.67 points (1.24%) from the previous session, and at one point surged to 3,951.07, hitting a new intraday high.
While individual investors sold more than 2 trillion won, foreign investors and institutions drove the index upward by net purchasing 590.8 billion won and 1.405 trillion won, respectively. In the KOSPI200 futures market, individuals and institutions net sold 24.7 billion won and 1.1242 trillion won, respectively, while foreign investors alone net purchased 1.1507 trillion won.
Among the top KOSPI stocks by market capitalization, buying outweighed selling. LG Energy Solution led the gains with a 9.94% surge, followed by SK Hynix (6.58%), Doosan Enerbility (6.03%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (2.95%), Samsung Electronics (2.38%), Samsung Biologics (1.38%), and Hyundai Motor (0.20%). In contrast, Hanwha Aerospace (-3.43%), KB Financial Group (-0.87%), and Kia (-0.09%) declined.
Lim Jeongeun, a researcher at KB Securities, commented, "The strong earnings report from Intel has spread positive sentiment to domestic semiconductor stocks," and noted, "With the KOSPI 4,000 just ahead, U.S.-Korea tariff uncertainties could emerge as a potential risk factor." As the market's attention turns to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Gyeongju next week, major global monetary policy events such as the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the European Central Bank (ECB), and the Bank of Japan (BOJ) policy rate decisions are also on the horizon.
On the same day, the KOSDAQ closed at 883.08, up 11.05 points (1.27%). The index opened at 880.61, up 8.58 points (0.98%), and continued to gain throughout the session. While individuals and foreign investors net sold 110.8 billion won and 38.3 billion won, respectively, institutions supported the index by net purchasing 158.6 billion won.
The top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization ended the session with mixed results. EcoPro (8.34%), EcoPro BM (8.28%), HLB (2.71%), Rainbow Robotics (1.95%), and Peptron (0.19%) rose, while PharmaResearch (-2.84%), Alteogen (-1.55%), LIG Chem Bio (-1.04%), Samchundang Pharm (-0.65%), and ABL Bio (-0.24%) declined.
By sector, electrical equipment (+9.84%), chemicals (+6.78%), oil & gas (+4.69%), construction (+4.17%), and steel (+4.13%) finished strong. In contrast, healthcare (-3.09%), display (-2.52%), trade (-2.44%), and life sciences (-2.42%) saw declines.
