Tongmyong University has launched a project to support faculty entrepreneurship.
The Startup Support Center (Director: Park Cheolsu) of the Tongmyong University RISE Project Group (Head: Lee Eungju) held a training session titled "Strengthening Technology Startup Capabilities: R&D and Technology Commercialization·Open Innovation" for faculty entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs at the International Industry-Academia Cooperation Hall on October 23.
This training was designed to help faculty members turn their R&D achievements into practical startup items and to specifically promote technology commercialization based on these outcomes. The program focused on strategies to transform the university's technology into sustainable value in the market.
The first lecture was delivered by Ahn Yonghun, CEO of Bellution Co., Ltd., on the topic of "R&D and Technology Commercialization." He explained the process of linking university research achievements to startups, including technology transfer, securing intellectual property, and designing startup business models.
CEO Ahn stated, "R&D is not merely a research activity but the starting point for creating social value through technological innovation," adding, "To expand professors' research technologies into commercialization, market analysis, technology value assessment, and funding strategies must be pursued simultaneously."
The second lecture was given by Park Seongyeol, Senior Team Leader at Tap Angel Partners Co., Ltd. He introduced models for technology collaboration and investment linkage among universities, companies, and startups under the theme of "Open Innovation." He emphasized, "Technology startups can no longer be accomplished by the capabilities of a single organization," and stressed, "Open technological convergence through industry-academia-research collaboration and investment networks is the key to successfully commercializing university technologies."
Lee Eungju, Head of the RISE Project Group, said, "This training marks the first step in building a 'technology startup hub' that expands university research achievements into startups," and added, "We will continue to support universities so they can contribute to regional innovation and economic revitalization through technology startups."
Starting with this training, the Tongmyong University Startup Support Center plans to gradually implement programs to strengthen faculty members' technology startup capabilities and support startup commercialization. The goal is to establish a sustainable startup culture within the university and build a regional technology innovation ecosystem.
