On the 24th, Mayor Yook Donghan of Chuncheon and the city delegation visited Changzhou in Jiangsu Province, China, a friendship and cooperation city.

The relationship between Chuncheon and Changzhou dates back 19 years. Changzhou, known as China's first animation industry base, is a cultural city with a developed creative animation and content industry. The two cities began exchanges in 2006 through a joint creative animation production partnership. Since signing a friendship and cooperation agreement in 2011, they have continued to collaborate in various fields, including administration, culture, and sports. Notably, during the COVID-19 outbreak, the two cities mutually supported each other with quarantine supplies.

As their first official event of the day, Mayor Yook and the delegation attended a book donation ceremony at Changzhou City Library. This event was a follow-up exchange to the business agreement signed in June last year between Chuncheon City Library and Changzhou City Library. During the ceremony, Changzhou donated 80 books to Chuncheon, reaffirming both cities’ commitment to expanding cultural content exchanges.

Next, the delegation visited the Changzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Hall to benchmark the city’s development process and smart city and sustainable urban policies. They then held a meeting at Changzhou City Hall with Vice Mayor Jiang Fengju and other city government officials.

The two cities discussed continuing exchanges in culture, administration, and sports, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation in urban policy and administrative innovation. Lee Kanggyun, President of the Chuncheon Sports Council, also attended the meeting to share the achievements of sports exchanges resumed between the two cities since last year and to discuss plans for further expansion. In particular, it was agreed that the Changzhou youth soccer team will participate in the Chuncheon Youth Soccer Tournament U-12 to be held in Chuncheon next month, and the Chuncheon team will attend the Korea-China Sports Exchange Tournament in Changzhou.

Mayor Yook stated, "Chuncheon and Changzhou each have different strengths, and by working together, we can create greater synergy. I hope we will continue to develop cooperative models in future industries and establish a sustainable structure."

Vice Mayor Jiang Fengju also said, "Chuncheon and Changzhou have grown together in various fields based on a long-standing friendship. I look forward to seeing both cities continue to develop together through broad exchanges in culture, industry, and sports."

In the afternoon, the city delegation visited local biotech company Sifary Medical to review the industry status and discuss the potential for cooperation with Chuncheon’s bio-health industry development strategy. Afterwards, the delegation moved to Wuxi, where they attended a celebratory dinner hosted by Wuxi City with World Taekwondo officials and explored ways to expand cultural and sports exchanges through taekwondo. They also attended the opening ceremony of the Wuxi World Taekwondo Championships, further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two cities.
