Anchorage Delegation Visits Busan for LOI Signing
Promoting Exchange in Ports and Logistics, Tourism and Culture, and the Economy
Busan City has initiated intercity exchanges connecting the North Pacific. This move is seen as a preliminary step in the national effort to pioneer the Arctic shipping route.
On October 24, Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that a delegation from Anchorage, Alaska, USA, will visit Busan on October 25 to discuss exchanges in various fields such as port and logistics, tourism and culture, and the economy. The two cities will also sign a Letter of Intent (LOI) for cooperation.
Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska and serves as the state's economic, cultural, and logistics hub. The visiting delegation includes William Falsey, Chief Administrative Officer of Anchorage, Christopher Constant, Chair of the Anchorage Assembly, as well as officials from the economic and tourism sectors.
The signing ceremony will take place at 11:20 a.m. on October 25 at the Park Hyatt Busan, with Seong Hee-yeop, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, and the Anchorage delegation in attendance.
Through this LOI, the two cities have agreed to pursue practical cooperation measures, including collaboration in port and logistics industries, exchanges in tourism, and the promotion of human resource exchange.
This agreement is regarded as a step toward establishing a foundation for both cities to rise as global hub cities connecting the North Pacific region.
Busan is the world’s second-largest transshipment port and ranks seventh globally in container throughput, rapidly growing as a logistics hub in Northeast Asia and as a global tourist city. In contrast, Anchorage is recognized as the gateway for Arctic development in the United States and as a key city for energy and logistics.
After the signing of the agreement, the delegation will attend a welcome luncheon hosted by the city and tour major tourist attractions in Busan to observe the city’s maritime infrastructure and urban competitiveness.
Seong Hee-yeop, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, stated, "This visit by the Anchorage delegation will serve as an opportunity to expand exchanges between the two cities connecting the North Pacific. We will strive to achieve practical cooperation in various fields such as maritime, ports, and tourism in the future."
He also emphasized, "We will continue to expand practical exchanges and cooperation with major cities around the world to further enhance Busan’s status as a global hub city."
