"Severe outsourcing of content... Owning IP is key to sustainability and scalability"
Lee Seungyun, CEO of Story Protocol, stated on the 24th, "In order to survive as a creator, you must consider how to turn your content into assets and transform it into various forms of intellectual property (IP)."
During his keynote speech at "Creator Venture Seoul 2025 (CVS 2025)" held at the Textile Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on this day, Lee said, "Korean content is gaining global popularity, but the companies that actually produce it remain poor. If Squid Game had been a company, it would have become a multi-trillion won enterprise, but since all the IP belonged to Netflix, there were limitations to its scalability."

CVS 2025 is the first creator venture conference in Korea, co-hosted by fandom-based community platform Pending and accelerator Primer. Under the theme "Presenting the Direction of Creator Business," the event discussed ways for creators to grow as the main agents of startups and monetization.
Lee continued, "With Solo Leveling, we have created webtoons, movies, and animations, and now a live-action drama is set to be released on Netflix. Ultimately, it is the power of IP. Only by directly owning IP in the content industry can scalability and sustainability be achieved."
He also predicted that the era of secondary creation would become much more active. Lee explained, "Content that imitates certain singers or transforms original works is gaining popularity. With the advancement of AI technology, we will see secondary creations of much higher quality, going beyond fan fiction and fan art." He added, "We are also working on bringing these activities into the mainstream and making them legal."
Lee advised, "Every content creator is a one-person entrepreneur. To survive in the long run, you must think about how to brand and develop your content into IP, rather than making it a one-off."
Meanwhile, at CVS 2025, Sungkyu Lee, CEO of Hemeco Lab and operator of the YouTube channel 'Kiwoossem'; Sungwoo Cho, CEO of Subingsusan and operator of the 'Subingsu' channel; Kyunghyun Lee, CEO of Kritus; Dongpyo Lee, CEO of DP&Studio; Eongyu Joo, CEO of BusinessPT; Taeyong Kim, CEO of EO Studio; and Donggeun Cho, CEO of JOCoding, gave presentations and discussed changes in creator business models and the evolving relationships between creators, fans, and investors.

In addition, Harim Choi, CEO of ABJET (Infoclink); Sehyun Eom, CEO of Pending; Hyeyoon Park, CEO of Mapple Corporation; Hyungil Kim, former CEO of Webtoon Entertainment (Naver Webtoon); and Dokyun Kwon, CEO of Primer, along with other experts from the startup and venture capital (VC) industries, highlighted new trends in the creator ecosystem emerging from the convergence of fan platforms and investment.
Sehyun Eom, CEO of Pending, said, "Through this conference, I hope that creators and the venture industry can work together to design future business models and create synergy."
