Busan City and BISTEP Host 4th Future Technology Innovation Forum
Discussing Strategies to Foster New Marine Industries
On October 23, Busan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, led by President Kim Youngbu) held the "4th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum" at Lotte Hotel Busan, exploring strategies to become a global marine hub city based on science and technology.

This forum was held in conjunction with the 19th World Ocean Forum, which took place from October 22 to 24. Under the theme "Busan as a Global Marine Hub City Based on Science and Technology," more than 100 experts from industry, academia, research institutions, and government gathered to discuss innovation strategies for the marine industry.
During the event, BISTEP Director Chae Junwon presented "BISTEP's Role and Achievements in Fostering Busan's Marine Industry." Kim Sewon, Director at the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), introduced "Strategies for Fostering New Marine Industries in Busan." Kim Jihoon, Center Director at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), discussed "AI-Based Unmanned Monitoring and Data Collection Technology Development." Professor Yoo Bomi of Pukyong National University shared "Marine Bio-Industrialization Strategy: Value Innovation of Seaweed." Jin Songhan, Director at the Research Institute of Medium & Small Shipbuilding (RIMS), presented "Marine Waste Treatment Technology Using Eco-Friendly High-Temperature Gasification Systems." Each speaker outlined their vision for the future of Busan's marine industry.
In the subsequent panel discussion, Professor Bae Hyerim of Pusan National University served as moderator, leading an in-depth conversation with the presenters on "Strategies to Strengthen Busan's Status as a Global Marine Hub City."
Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, emphasized, "We must add the wings of scientific and technological innovation to Busan's longstanding marine industry tradition. Advanced technologies such as AI, digital, eco-friendly energy, and marine biotechnology will become new growth engines for Busan."
He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that Busan leads Korea's marine science and technology sector and establishes itself as a global marine hub city that attracts worldwide attention."
