Gyeonggi Province Establishes "Women and Family Fund" to Enhance Women's Rights and Welfare

Gyeonggi Province has established the "Women and Family Fund" to secure resources aimed at enhancing the rights and welfare of women and families.

On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Province formed the Gyeonggi Province Women and Family Fund Management Deliberation Committee and held its first discussion on the future direction of the fund's operation, according to an announcement on the 24th.

The Women and Family Fund is a newly created resource established to replace the Gender Equality Fund, which was abolished after its expiration on December 31, 2023.

The Gender Equality Fund, totaling 10 billion won, supported the spread of a gender-equal culture and the creation of a family-friendly environment within the province through a variety of projects. These included gender equality public projects, the Gyeonggi Ai Sarang Parent School, support programs for victims in response to the surge in stalking and dating violence, and programs to discover and strengthen the capabilities of female leaders.

Following the abolition of the Gender Equality Fund, Gyeonggi Province enacted the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Gyeonggi Province Women and Family Fund" to ensure that policies for women and families would continue without interruption, thereby creating the new fund.

The fund will be used for a variety of policy initiatives targeting women and families, including: expanding women's participation in society and promoting their rights; protecting women's human rights and improving welfare; supporting families; creating a social environment that supports childbirth, childrearing, and family-friendliness; and providing education for women and families.

Gyeonggi Province expects that the establishment of this fund will help spread the values of gender equality, foster a family-friendly social environment, and lay the groundwork for improving the quality of life for various members of society.

Yoon Youngmi, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The Gyeonggi Province Women and Family Fund is a key resource for protecting women's rights and supporting the stable lives of families. We will manage the fund systematically and efficiently so that it can serve as a catalyst for positive change in the lives of our residents."
