Daughter Jeon Jebi: "I will cherish this as a new memory"
Singer G-Dragon also honored with the Jade Crown
"I want to share this honor with my Big Bang members"
Choi Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is presenting the Order of Cultural Merit, Ok-gwan, awarded posthumously to comedian Jeon Yu-seong, to his daughter Jeon Jae-bi on the 23rd at the National Theater of Korea, Haeoreum Theater, Jung-gu, Seoul, during the Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony.
The voice recording left by the late comedian Jeon Yu-sung, who passed away on the 25th of last month, was released belatedly, three days after his death. This took place at the 2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony, held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 23rd at the National Theater of Korea's Haeoreum Theater in Seoul.
The late Jeon Yu-sung was named as a recipient of the Order of Cultural Merit, Jade Crown, on this day. During the ceremony, a pre-recorded message by Jeon Yu-sung was played. He said, "Many of my seniors have received this award in the past, and every time I thought, 'If many comedians receive it, then more juniors will also have the chance.' I am truly honored to be included among them."
He cited novelty as the reason he was loved by the public. "I think I was loved for doing things that others hadn't done. People seem to enjoy that kind of thing," he said, adding, "I hope that, upon reflection, people will mistakenly think of me as a knowledgeable comedian, even though I am actually ignorant."
The medal was received on his behalf by his daughter, Jeon Jebi. She said, "Thank you for giving him such a precious award," and added, "I will cherish this not as my father's final achievement, but as a new memory."
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwee-Young Choi is presenting the Order of Cultural Merit, Jade Crown to singer G-Dragon at the Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony held on the 23rd at the National Theater of Korea, Haeoreum Theater, Jung-gu, Seoul.
On the same day, singer G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong) received the Order of Cultural Merit, Jade Crown, becoming the youngest recipient of the award this year. He said, "I grew up listening to the songs of the stars, and now I have become one of those stars. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of my group, Big Bang, and I want to share this honor with my fellow members."
In addition, a total of 31 individuals and teams, including actors Kim Hae-sook, Lee Byung-hun, and Jung Dong-hwan, received the Order of Cultural Merit, as well as commendations from the President, Prime Minister, and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
