White bio refers to an industry that converts organic materials derived from plants and microorganisms into various energy and chemical product materials through biological processes. Along with green bio and red bio, it is considered one of the three major bio industries.
On October 23, next-generation white bio manufacturing company Jetron announced that it has secured seed investment from Bluepoint, a leading domestic accelerator. The specific investment amount and company valuation remain undisclosed.
Jetron integrates low-temperature plasma (LTP), synthetic biology (SynBio), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to achieve highly efficient bio-chemical manufacturing. The company has overcome the energy barriers of conventional white bio processes through its low-temperature plasma technology.
Within just six months of its founding, Jetron developed a proprietary platform technology that controls microbial fermentation without physical electrodes. In particular, to address the dependency on overseas genetic resources and related intellectual property (IP) restrictions of existing technologies, the company is pursuing a differentiated strategy by utilizing microorganisms based on national biological resources. This is cited as a case contributing to the increasingly important strengthening of national biosecurity.
Bluepoint decided to invest, recognizing Jetron's unique technological capabilities, execution, and the industry's growth potential. The global white bio market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of over 10%, reaching $560.9 billion (about 802 trillion won) by 2028. Jetron plans to leverage this investment to build a core research and development team and pursue subsequent partnerships to maximize the economic feasibility of its platform technology.
Jetron CEO Cho Injin said, "Jetron's name, an anagram of 'Net Zero,' reflects our strong commitment to leading the decarbonization era. By combining a solid technological foundation with national biological resources, we aim to help solve the global challenges of sustainable fuel and chemical production."
Min Namgi, Principal Investment Officer at Bluepoint, stated, "Jetron has the potential to transform the paradigm of conventional bio manufacturing. We will continue to support the company so it can realize its ultimate vision of a self-circulating, decarbonized bio-refinery."
