First, the jackets for local police officers have been changed from the previous dark gray to a dark navy blue. The National Police Agency explained that this was intended to harmonize with black vests and dark navy blue pants.
The hats for local police officers have also been improved from the previous low and flat shape to a higher and deeper design reminiscent of an eagle. The jackets and hats will be distributed sequentially to both field and office police officers within the next two years.
In addition, two types of jackets with enhanced comfort and warmth have been newly introduced for pregnant police officers. Around 300 officers per year are expected to use these jackets.
The National Police Agency concluded, through prior research, that the existing uniforms and gear for local and riot police did not harmonize functionally or aesthetically. As a result, the agency adopted a "balance design" concept, coordinating the colors of outerwear and equipment within the same color family.
Since July, the National Police Agency has held uniform review sessions for active-duty officers at 18 provincial police agencies. During this process, photos of officers wearing some prototypes spread online, leading to a significant number of negative reactions. The agency then held an online review session for citizens, and after strengthening the design and conducting pilot wear tests, the final version was released.
An official from the National Police Agency stated, "A total of 9,500 citizens and about 14,000 police officers participated from preliminary research through prototype production. By changing only the design, we were able to improve the compatibility and functionality of each uniform and gear, enhance the overall image, and minimize budgetary burden."
Meanwhile, the National Police Agency plans to exhibit the new police uniforms until the 25th, during the International Security Industry Expo.
