"Promoting Jung-gu, the Birthplace of Yi Sunshin, to the World"
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gilsung) announced on the 23rd that broadcaster Seo Kyungseok has been appointed as the "Jung-gu History Promotion Ambassador." At the appointment ceremony held on the 22nd, Seo began his activities to widely promote the historical value of Jung-gu, leveraging his signature humor and profound knowledge of history.
Seo Kyungseok is the first broadcaster to achieve a perfect score on the Korean History Proficiency Test. He has gained significant popularity for his approachable and engaging history lectures through various history-related programs, his book "Seo Kyungseok's One-Volume Korean History," and his YouTube channel "Geurae Seo Kyungseok."
During the appointment ceremony, a special lecture titled "Jung-gu, Yi Sunshin WHY?" was held for Jung-gu district office staff. In his lecture, Seo explained, "Chungmuro is where the young Yi Sunshin used to play war games, and Hunryeonwon Park is where he passed the military examination and worked." He added, "Every corner of Jung-gu is a stage where Yi Sunshin's life and spirit are alive." Seo further encouraged everyone to help widely promote Jung-gu as the birthplace of Yi Sunshin, contributing to building public support for the new city brand. In September, Seo also received a great response for his history lecture at the "100 Citizens of Jung-gu Embrace Yi Sunshin" public forum.
Seo will meet residents again through a special "History Talk Show: Dagieok Code" for elementary school students and their families in Jung-gu on October 27, and a history concert at the "Dasan Fortress Road Arts and Culture Festival" on November 15. Seo Kyungseok shared his thoughts, saying, "As the Jung-gu History Promotion Ambassador, I will strive to share the hidden history, figures, and stories of Jung-gu with many citizens in an easy and entertaining way."
Kim Gilsung, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "I am grateful to Seo Kyungseok for gladly accepting the role of Jung-gu History Promotion Ambassador. I hope that the value of Jung-gu, with its 630-year history, will become even more widely known through Seo Kyungseok's witty storytelling."
