A Remarkable Achievement: Awards in Both Public and Private Sectors
Seocho District in Seoul (headed by District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 23rd that it received the Korea Forest Service Award at the '15th Korea Landscape Awards 2025' ceremony held on the 21st, for its garden 'Salon de Garden' created near Yangjaecheon Cafe Street.
The 'Korea Landscape Awards' is a leading award in the landscape architecture field, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Environmental Landscape Development Foundation. It recognizes outstanding landscape spaces that contribute to creating pleasant urban and regional living environments and improving the quality of life for citizens.
Seocho District was highly praised for establishing 'Salon de Garden' through the Yangjaecheon riverside green space renovation project, improving the urban landscape, and implementing a model for regional coexistence.
'Salon de Garden' is the result of the Yangjaecheon riverside renovation project carried out from August 2023 to July last year. It is an open garden where an open terrace, decked walking paths, and garden-style green spaces are harmoniously integrated. The name, in collaboration with the local brand 'Salon in Yangjaecheon,' reflects the locality and sentiment of the area, establishing itself as Seocho District's signature garden where both residents and visitors can relax and heal.
This spring, four themed gardens were added in collaboration with professional garden designers: a four-season fragrance garden, a colorful sensory garden, a healing garden, and a four-season sensory garden, further enhancing the space. In March, the district also signed a 'green space adoption' agreement with representatives from five businesses in Yangjaecheon Cafe Street, establishing a governance system in which the local business community participates in garden management. As a result, residents and merchants are now jointly cultivating and enjoying the garden, realizing a participatory landscape management model.
Meanwhile, in the private sector, 'Maple Jai' in Jamwon-dong, Seocho District, received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award. True to its name, 'Maple Jai' was highly rated for creating an emotional landscape inspired by maple trees, with a design that connects the memories of residents from before the redevelopment.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, "Winning awards in both the public and private sectors at the Korea Landscape Awards is a testament to the distinguished level of landscaping in Seocho District," adding, "We will continue to take pride as a leading local government in landscape architecture and consistently uphold its value."
