Yangsan City Proves Its Strength at National Sports Festival... Rising as a Sports Hub

Yangsan City Hall Women's Table Tennis and Volleyball Teams Both Win Bronze Medals

The Yangsan City Hall women's table tennis team and women's volleyball team both placed at the 106th National Sports Festival, once again demonstrating the strength of "Sports City Yangsan" to the nation.

At the table tennis event held in Busan from October 17 to 23, Lee Jungyeon of the Yangsan City Hall women's table tennis team teamed up with Jo Jaejun (Sancheong County Office) to win third place in the mixed doubles competition.

This achievement is particularly meaningful as it was earned by competing head-to-head with professional teams as a business team, and Lee Jungyeon was the only medalist among the players from the nine city and county office women's table tennis business teams participating in the tournament.

The pair of Lee Jungyeon and Jo Jaejun delivered an outstanding performance by defeating Lee Suyeon (Pohang City Sports Association) and Lim Yuno (Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps) 3-0 in the quarterfinals, but narrowly missed advancing to the finals after losing to the professional team Samsung Life Insurance's Cho Seungmin and Joo Chunhee in the semifinals.

In particular, Lee Jungyeon deeply moved many by displaying exceptional fighting spirit, competing until the end despite suffering a finger fracture just five days before the tournament and relying on painkillers to play.

Coach Lee Jeongsam said, "I feel proud of Lee Jungyeon's determination to never give up and do her best until the end despite the difficult situation of a finger fracture," adding, "As a local government team, this is an achievement as valuable as a gold medal."

The Yangsan City Hall women's volleyball team also showcased excellent performance at this tournament, earning a bronze medal. They gained momentum by defeating the Dong-Eui University volleyball team from Busan 3-0 in the quarterfinals, but unfortunately missed the finals after losing to the Pohang City Sports Association volleyball team in the semifinals. However, the result was even more meaningful as it was achieved through the determination and perseverance of the young players.

Coach Kang Hokyung commented, "Our young players gave their all and played excellent matches on the big stage of the National Sports Festival. We will use this experience as a stepping stone to achieve even better results next year."

Seong Eunyeong, head of the Sports Support Division, said, "We are extremely proud that our city's women's table tennis and volleyball teams have achieved outstanding results at the national tournament. We will continue to provide ongoing interest and support so that our athletes can perform at their best in a stable environment."
