On October 22 (local time), Cambodian media outlet Khmer Times reported, "The previous day, the decomposed body of a Chinese man was found in a sack in a forest near an outer road in the Dangkor district of Phnom Penh."
It was reported that a local resident noticed a foul-smelling sack, opened it, found the body, and alerted the police.
A local government official explained, "On the evening of the incident, a vehicle carrying two men was seen near the scene. After stopping the car, they took out a large sack and abandoned it in the forest by the roadside before leaving."
Police stated that the body appears to be that of a Chinese man in his 40s and is believed to have been killed several days prior. One police official said, "There was a strong odor of decomposition from the sack, and it appears the suspects abandoned the body in a secluded area. We are also not ruling out the possibility that the case may be connected to online fraud."
The body has now been moved to a nearby temple for further investigation.
Chhim Sithar, chief of Dangkor Police Station, said, "The identities of the victim and the suspects have not yet been confirmed," adding, "We are reviewing CCTV footage from around the road in an effort to locate the vehicle used to transport the body."
