Integrating Home Appliances and IoT Devices: LG Launches AI Home Hub "ThinQ On"

Sales Begin on October 22 via Online Brand Shop
Engineer Visits for In-Home Appliance and Device Connections
Control Regular Appliances Like Smart Devices

LG Electronics is officially launching its artificial intelligence (AI) home hub, LG ThinQ On. This AI home solution enables customers to control connected home appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, as well as access related services, simply by conversing in everyday language. The AI understands context and space, offering seamless integration and control.

Starting October 22, LG Electronics will begin selling LG ThinQ On and the LG IoT Device in South Korea through its online brand shop, followed by various online and offline channels. The shipment price for LG ThinQ On is 246,000 won, while LG IoT Devices range from 40,000 to 513,000 won.

Even customers unfamiliar with connecting IoT devices can opt for professional installation when purchasing ThinQ On. A certified installation engineer will visit and set up a customized AI home according to the customer’s preferences. The engineer will also provide easy-to-understand guidance on connecting ThinQ On with AI home appliances and IoT devices, as well as on voice/remote control and appliance upgrades.

Ryu Jaecheol, President and Head of the Home Appliance & Air Solution (HS) Division at LG Electronics, stated, "LG ThinQ On is the core hub of an AI home that empathizes and communicates like a friend through everyday conversations," adding, "We will provide a differentiated AI home customer experience by controlling appliances with generative AI and recommending services tailored to customer needs."

LG ThinQ On understands context and learns and predicts daily routines through conversations with customers. As a core device of the LG AI Home, it keeps home appliances and IoT devices connected 24 hours a day to create an optimal environment. Its sophisticated cylindrical design, which won both the Red Dot and iF Design Awards this year, fits seamlessly into any space.

Equipped with generative AI, LG ThinQ On can converse with customers in natural language. Unlike previous voice recognition speakers that provided only simple, predefined answers and commands, ThinQ On can remember and execute complex instructions. For example, if a customer says, "Turn off the air conditioner, start the robot vacuum, and turn on the dehumidifier in an hour" before leaving home, ThinQ On will remember and carry out each task. It can also control multiple appliances at once or manage devices by space, such as "Turn off all the lights in the bedroom."

LG Electronics also offers AI Home packages tailored to customers’ lifestyles using ThinQ On and IoT devices. For customers seeking an optimal sleep environment, the Well-Sleeping package includes ThinQ On, a smart lighting switch, smart bulbs, and more. Through the dedicated app, lights gradually dim at the set bedtime, while the air conditioner and air purifier switch to quiet mode, and connected IoT blinds close automatically, all to ensure a comfortable sleep.

By purchasing the Smart Start package, which includes a variety of LG IoT devices such as a smart button, air quality sensor, temperature/humidity sensor, door sensor, motion/illuminance sensor, smart plug, smart lighting switch, and smart door lock, customers can transform their entire home into an AI home customized to their lifestyle.

For example, installing temperature and humidity sensors in moisture-prone areas like verandas or dressing rooms allows ThinQ On to automatically activate a connected air conditioner or dehumidifier when humidity rises. Air quality sensors in study rooms or kitchens provide real-time monitoring of fine dust levels, while motion/illuminance sensors and door sensors enable more precise control of appliances and IoT devices by analyzing the state of each space.

Even appliances without smart features can be remotely controlled using ThinQ On and IoT devices. By connecting a smart plug to a hair dryer or fan, customers can cut the power via the ThinQ app when away from home. Installing a smart lighting switch allows lights to be turned on or off easily by voice or remotely.

To ensure the secure connection and data protection of various AI appliances and IoT devices linked to ThinQ On, LG Electronics has implemented its proprietary security system, LG Shield. LG Shield eliminates potential vulnerabilities throughout the entire product development process-from analysis and design to implementation and verification-and is granted only to products that pass security validation. It encrypts sensitive information such as personal data and stores encryption keys in a separate area to prevent data leaks, while also protecting against external tampering of operational codes or data. In addition, the latest encryption technologies are applied to safeguard data, with real-time detection and blocking of threats and intrusions.

Extensive connectivity is another advantage. LG ThinQ On is certified with Matter, the open smart home interoperability standard. Supporting various connection methods such as Wi-Fi and Thread, it can link a wide range of domestic and international home appliances and IoT devices.

Through the integrated hub app store, ThinQ Play, on the LG ThinQ app, customers can access approximately 800 different app services-including calendar, taxi booking, music streaming, and weather-as well as smart IoT devices from various manufacturers, all compatible with ThinQ On.

LG Electronics plans to expand AI Home to various spaces where customers spend their time. By combining products and services-such as the modular home Smart Cottage, the mobility space solution Spilraum, and the ThinQ Apartment Complex Connection Service-LG Electronics aims to build ongoing relationships with customers and deliver differentiated value through AI space solutions.

Meanwhile, the AI home market is experiencing rapid growth. Global market research firm InsightAce Analytic forecasts that the global AI-based smart home market will grow at an average annual rate of 21.3% from this year, reaching USD 104.1 billion (approximately KRW 149 trillion) by 2034.
