A woman in her 30s is reportedly in critical condition after being struck by an electric scooter carrying two middle school students. It has been reported that she fell while attempting to block the scooter with her body as it headed toward her daughter.
According to the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon on October 21, at around 4:37 p.m. on October 18, a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. B, was hit by an electric scooter carrying two middle school students, including a girl identified as Ms. A, on a sidewalk in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu District. Ms. B suffered severe head injuries and was transported to the hospital by emergency responders, but she has not regained consciousness.
At the time, Ms. B was leaving a convenience store after buying cotton candy for her young daughter. She saw the electric scooter speeding toward her daughter without slowing down and tried to block it with her body, causing her to fall backward.
Ms. A was operating the electric scooter without a moped license and violated the one-person-per-scooter rule. Under the Road Traffic Act, electric scooters, classified as personal mobility devices, can only be operated by individuals aged 16 or older who possess either a moped or automobile license.
The police plan to investigate Ms. A on charges of causing injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, as well as unlicensed driving under the Road Traffic Act.
