Expanded to 190 Spaces, Easing Parking Shortages Expected
Official Operation Begins on the 21st, Free Nighttime Access
Gwangsan District in Gwangju has opened the "Gwangsan-ro No.1 Public Parking Tower," which offers 190 parking spaces, to alleviate parking shortages and revitalize the commercial area around Songjeong Station.
The district held a completion ceremony the previous day and began official operations on October 21. The existing parking lot, which previously had 62 spaces, has been expanded to a three-story, four-level structure with 190 spaces. A total of 8 billion won from national, city, and district budgets was invested in the project. Dedicated parking spaces for people with disabilities and pregnant women, as well as 10 electric vehicle charging stations, have also been installed.
This project was implemented to meet the parking demand of visitors to Songjeong Five-Day Market and the Gwangsan-ro shopping district. Since August, the facility has been temporarily open for a trial run. Gwangsan District incorporated residents' feedback through public briefings, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve access to the commercial area.
Parking fees are free for the first hour, 400 won for up to two hours, and 800 won for each additional hour. From 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day, parking is free. District Mayor Park Byungkyu stated, "We hope this will become a hub that reduces the burden of parking and contributes to revitalizing the local commercial area."
