According to the county on October 21, this program is being implemented with funding from the Wanju County Special Education Development District project. It is designed to help local children achieve emotional stability and improve their social skills through interaction with dogs.
In particular, students from the Department of Companion Animal Studies at Kijeon University will participate as volunteers, conducting hands-on activities and emotional exchange programs using dogs as mediators.
The program consists of activities such as building intimacy with dogs, basic pet care experiences, emotional expression games, and education on empathy and responsibility. It aims to help participating children naturally open their hearts and restore positive emotions through interaction with animals.
Through this project, the county plans to provide healing opportunities for children in need of care and to establish a Wanju-style regional cooperation model involving universities, local governments, and child care institutions.
County Governor Yoo Heetae stated, "Interacting with animals is a precious experience that warms children’s hearts and fosters their ability to empathize with others," adding, "We will continue to make Wanju a place where children can grow up happily through the Special Education Development District project."
