[2025 Audit] Kim Dongyeon: "Anti-China Protests Are of No Help to the National Interest"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon recently argued that the recent anti-China protests are not beneficial to the national interest at all.

On the 21st, during the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's audit of Gyeonggi Province held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Governor Kim responded to a question from Assemblyman Jeong Chunseng of the New Reform Party by saying, "I am concerned when I see anti-China protests and various situations that encourage them," and added, "They are of no help whatsoever to the national interest, national dignity, the economy, or APEC."

He continued, "Gyeonggi Province established the Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Bureau last year and has been working extensively on human rights and job creation for migrant workers and multicultural families, economic assistance, anti-discrimination, and refugee human rights protection," and promised, "If measures are needed regarding anti-China sentiment, we will prepare them."

Previously, Assemblyman Jeong Chunseng stated, "Anti-China protests and conspiracy theories about election fraud are spreading nationwide," and called on Gyeonggi Province, the largest local government in the country, to take the lead in preparing countermeasures.

Assemblyman Jeong also said, "During the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, North Korean defectors distributed balloons filled with waste in concentrated numbers, causing severe damage to residents in border areas of Gyeonggi Province," and urged, "Since such situations could occur again if the administration changes in the future, please prepare measures to protect residents in the border regions."
