Ppeokka Raises Allegations of Gambling and Prostitution Against Gwa-jeupseyeon
Court: "1 Million Won Awarded Out of 3 Million Won Claimed"
The court has ordered 'cyber wrecker' YouTuber Ppeokka to compensate BJ (internet broadcast host) Gwa-jeupseyeon (real name In Seyoun) for damages.
On October 21, Judge Lim Bokgyu of the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 1005 ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff, ordering Ppeokka to pay 10 million won in a lawsuit where In Seyoun had sought 30 million won in damages against Ppeokka.
'Cyber wrecker' refers to YouTubers who sensationalize and distort incidents involving others for profit. On his YouTube channel, Ppeokka raised allegations that In Seyoun had engaged in sexual relations for monetary compensation and had gambled in Las Vegas, USA.
In response, Gwa-jeupseyeon appointed the law firm Riu as her legal representative in September last year and proceeded with a defamation lawsuit. In February, Gwa-jeupseyeon's side secured Ppeokka's identity through the U.S. federal court's discovery process, obtaining approval from the local court.
Ppeokka's side sent a warning email demanding that information obtained through the lawsuit not be disclosed to external parties, and filed a 'motion to stay proceedings' with the court, but it was dismissed. This is because, under relevant law, a stay of proceedings can only be granted if certain conditions such as death, bankruptcy, or illness are met.
