The National Human Rights Commission of Korea plans to conduct an ex officio investigation to determine whether there were any human rights violations in the death of a Yangpyeong government official.

On the afternoon of October 20, the commission put the ex officio investigation proposal to a vote at its 19th plenary session, passing it with six votes in favor and two against.


Mr. A, a Yangpyeong County Office official in his 50s, was found dead at his home on October 10, after being questioned by the special prosecutor's team led by Min Junggi, which is investigating allegations related to First Lady Kim Keonhee.


Mr. A's suicide note claimed that the special prosecutor's team had conducted a coercive investigation, but the team denied any use of coercion.
