K-Calligraphy Showcasing the Beauty of Hangeul to Be Exhibited in Sejong City for Ten Days Starting October 22

From October 22 to November 2, the Sejong City Parkyeon Cultural Center Exhibition Hall will host an exhibition by Chwiseok Song Hajin, featuring works that combine calligraphy and the Korean alphabet, Hangeul.

This exhibition, organized by Sejong City and hosted by the Sejong Foundation for Culture and Tourism, is designed to showcase the process of elevating the beauty of Hangeul into art and to suggest a modern direction for Hangeul calligraphy.

Chwiseok Song Hajin is a calligrapher pioneering a new direction in Hangeul calligraphy. Moving away from the traditional focus on Chinese characters, he creates works centered on the Korean alphabet.

According to city officials, he is recognized for expressing the structure, rhythm, and energetic brushstrokes of Hangeul in a painterly manner, thereby expanding Hangeul calligraphy as a genre of contemporary art.

The exhibition will feature over 60 pieces, highlighting the formative beauty of Hangeul. In particular, visitors can experience new styles of calligraphy, such as horizontal writing that follows the word order of the Korean language, based on the artist’s philosophy that Hangeul should be the true foundation of Korean calligraphy. Admission to the exhibition is free.

For more information about the exhibition or group visits, please refer to the website of the Hangeul Culture City Center at the Sejong Foundation for Culture and Tourism (한글문화도시.kr), or contact the Parkyeon Cultural Center Exhibition Hall directly.
