The United States Embassy in Korea announced on X on the 20th, "Ambassador Joseph Yoon, who has served as Charg? d'Affaires to Korea for over a year, will depart as of October 24." The embassy added, "The U.S. Department of State expresses its deep gratitude for Ambassador Yoon's leadership and dedication in strengthening the enduring and ironclad U.S.-Korea alliance and advancing U.S. interests."


Yoon assumed his post on January 11. His appointment took place just before the launch of the second Donald Trump administration. It has been reported that Kevin Kim, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and a Korean American, is being considered as his successor.
