On October 20, Buk-gu, Gwangju announced that it will host the '2025 Art Festival' to expand opportunities for residents to enjoy culture and the arts.
The event will be held at the Gwangju Biennale Geosigi Hall until October 23, under the slogan "Art Without Borders, A Festival for All." In connection with the theme of the Gwangju Design Biennale, the festival is designed as an inclusive event where people with and without disabilities can participate together.
Local artists with disabilities have been invited as key artists and will take part in both the exhibition and hands-on activities. Within the 373-square-meter exhibition space, there will be artwork displays as well as workshops for making art ceramics and keyrings. A "Giant Canvas Zone: I Am Also an Artist" will be set up, allowing any resident to paint directly on a large canvas.
The opening ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. on October 21 at the outdoor plaza of the Gwangju Biennale. About 100 people, including Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu and local residents, are expected to attend for performances, live art, and viewing of artworks. Calligrapher Lee Bonghwa will give a large-brush calligraphy performance, followed by "Live Art," where four artists will create works in real time on site.
After the opening ceremony, there will be a talk concert where artists with and without disabilities will discuss their creative work and lives. Mayor Moon In stated, "This will be a place where everyone can enjoy art together in harmony," and added, "We hope for great interest and participation in this event, which, in connection with the Gwangju Design Biennale, will help promote Buk-gu as a cultural city."
