From People Power Party Chungnam Spokesperson
to Political Academy Lecturer to Boryeong Candidacy
Spotlight on the Second Core Aide of Kim Taeheum
Han Manhyung, former secretary classified as a close aide to Kim Taeheum, governor of Chungnam Province, will run for Chungnam Provincial Assembly member representing Boryeong in next year's local elections.
Han Manhyung, former political secretary widely regarded as one of Governor Kim Taeheum's closest aides, has declared himself the "Kim Taeheum Speaker" and officially launched his campaign for next year's local elections. As the second member of the so-called "Kim Taeheum Kids" group likely to enter regional politics, his move is stirring up the political scene in Boryeong.
In the 2022 eighth-term local elections, Shin Youngho, a Chungnam Provincial Assembly member from Seocheon County, was elected as the first "Kim Taeheum Kid" to the assembly.
Han Manhyung, who has served as secretary to Kim Taeheum since his days as a National Assembly member, is someone who has experienced the vision and policy direction of the eighth-term provincial administration closer than anyone else.
According to Asia Economy's coverage on October 20, Han was recently appointed as spokesperson for the Chungnam Provincial branch of the People Power Party. He is also establishing himself as a "political think tank" by serving as a lecturer at a political academy in Asan, analyzing the current political landscape.
He stated, "I will act as a filter to sift out meaningless slander and baseless speculation in politics," adding, "I will speak out clearly against falsehoods and distortions."
He further emphasized, "I will be a speaker to publicize Governor Kim Taeheum’s achievements in building a stronger Chungnam," and "I will become a genuine voice that remains a source of pride for the residents."
Local political circles predict that Han Manhyung is highly likely to compete in the party primary for the Southern Boryeong Provincial Assembly seat in next year’s local elections, facing Choi Eunsun, the current chairwoman of Boryeong City Council.
He plans to put youth politics at the forefront and present a mid- to long-term development roadmap for Boryeong through harmony with the older generation.
Han Manhyung stated, "I want to serve as a bridge for Boryeong’s development by leveraging my experience in the Chungnam Provincial Government and the National Assembly," adding, "I will ensure the province’s key projects are successfully implemented in Boryeong next year, continuing uninterrupted progress."
Han Manhyung, a native of Boryeong, graduated from Cheongbo Elementary School, Cheongra Middle School, Daecheon High School, and the Department of Law at Soongsil University. He also earned a master’s degree in Political Science and Diplomacy from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He began his career as a social activist with Green Korea United and later served as secretary to National Assembly member Kim Taeheum and as political secretary to Governor Kim Taeheum, earning him the nickname "Kim Taeheum Kid No. 2."
